Why is Jacks Magic so special?

The Magic of West+2®

Our West+2® formula has improved water retention which means it helps reduce the compost drying out. It also requires less watering than average peat reduced and peat free composts. It is a fine grade material which enables closer seed contact for improved germination and closer root contact for more water and nutrient uptake. The added calcium enhances nitrogen uptake for strong, healthy growth and green, glossy foliage. The added Magnesium encourages photosynthesis for plant energy production.

Where do you use it?

Jack’s Magic traditional compost is perfect for use all around the garden and for flowers, fruits and vegetables. Use it for seed sowing*, potting, planting as well as container planting too. Enriched with organic fertiliser, this compost will also feed your plants for the first 4-5 weeks after potting so you don’t have to worry. Furthermore, it produces super natural plant growth, as well as exceptional health for plants and blooms.

Where to start with Jack’s Magic:

Rework the compost between your hands, so it regains its intended texture. Then you’re all set.

Seed Sowing*:

  1. Fill a seed tray with compost. Water and allow to drain and make a hole in the compost.
  2. Sow seeds to the depth and spacing mentioned on the packet. Many seeds have specific germination needs which should be carefully followed.
  3. Water with a fine rose watering can, and prevent drying out with a clear cover.
  4. Germinate in a warm spot away from direct sunlight. Keep seedlings moist.
  5. Once seeds have germinated, remove glass / polythene and keep compost moist until seedlings are ready for pricking out.

*For fine seeds and best results we always recommend using a dedicated seed sowing compost.

Seedlings/ Pricking out:

  1. Prick out seedlings once large enough to handle.
  2. Hold seedling carefully to avoid damage and gently tease the roots from the compost, using a dibber or pencil.
  3. Space seedlings to allow for vigorous growth.
  4. Water regularly until the seeds are ready to pot-on.

Beds & Borders

  1. Dig a hole twice the depth and diameter of the roots.
  2. Place your plant in the hole.
  3. Fill any gaps with compost.
  4. Water

Pots & Baskets:

  1. Before potting water plants well and allow to drain.
  2. Gently tap the pot to remove and shake off loose compost.
  3. Choose new containers that are clean, have good drainage and enough space to allow strong root growth.
  4. Put plant in new container and fill space in pot with new compost, firming gently.
  5. Water well after repotting.

Top Tips for Planting Pots & Baskets

For containers and baskets, line your basket using a coco linereasy liner or sphagnum moss and fill with compost. Lining your containers and baskets can help with water retention as well as draining water at a consistent pace for longer lasting plant life.

Choosing the right plants will ensure you get the best out of your blooms. Plant with trailing plants around the outside and upright plants in the middle. Fill gaps, firm compost down and water well.

Damaged and Faulty Goods

If your goods are damaged or faulty, we will replace the goods free of charge. If you do not want a replacement, delivery charges may be incurred to collect the item from you. Do not install any damaged items. This counts as acceptance of goods and the item is then non-returnable and non-refundable. Damaged goods must be reported within 48 hours of delivery, please contact us by emailing websales@beattys.ie or by phone on (091) 841403. In the event that goods are received in a damaged state please retain the product together with any packaging and contact us within 48 hours of receipt with photographic evidence. In the case of an item being faulty we may require an inspection by a manufacturer's qualified engineer to be carried out on the item in the location where it is installed. This is so the nature of the fault can be ascertained before we can arrange for a replacement.

All products leave our premises in perfect condition. The customer must notify the carrier (or postman) of even the slightest trace of damage (holes, signs of crushing, etc.) to the parcel, and refuse the package if necessary.

Unwanted Goods

Do not install or use any unwanted items. This counts as acceptance of goods and the item is then non-returnable and non-refundable. You have a statutory right to return unopened goods up to 14 days after receiving your order (“the cooling off period”) and then a further 14 days to return the products. If you are not ordering a replacement, a charge may be incurred to collect the item from you. You must notify us of your wish to cancel within 14 days, starting the day after delivery. You have the choice of returning the goods via your own means ( Beattys of Loughrea, Church Street, Loughrea, Co. Galway) or requesting that we collect them. If you request collection, we will collect the goods on the next available date that one of our delivery vehicles is in your area. You have a duty of care while the goods are in your possession and we reserve the right to charge you for any damage that may have occurred during this period.

We reserve the right to apply re-handling charges for returned items under some circumstances:

  • The goods received back are 'as new' but incomplete; i.e. missing components and/or accessories.
  • The returned products are missing their original packaging.
  • The cancellation was requested after the 14 day notification period.

 We do not accept returns and will not provide refunds under the following circumstances:

  • The goods you wish to return are in any condition other than 'as new'.
  • The goods have been installed and/or used.
  • Cables have been cut or terminated.

Refunds will be reimbursed within 30 working days of the cancellation date.
